Celine is a PhD researcher at the UCD School of Chemistry under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Marina Rubini. She completed her BSc in Chemistry at Gettysburg College in 2019. While at Gettysburg College, Celine conducted research under Dr. Nikki Shariat and Dr. Koren Lipsett. Her senior thesis in biochemical research focused on identifying a genetic correlation between loss of pigmentation and deafness in a specific population of horses. After graduation, Celine accepted a position at Tata Harper Skincare as a Laboratory Technician working in R&D. During the pandemic, she moved closer to family and accepted a position as a Lab Operations Technician with Henkel Technologies in Adhesive Technologies. During this time, Celine felt a strong urge to go back to university to get her PhD. This led her to undertake a master’s by research degree at UCD under Assistant Professor Demetra Achilleos, focusing on biomass photoreforming via “green” photocatalytic routes. This degree solidified Celine's passion for research which led her to seek out her current PhD position. Celine’s research now focuses on protein modification for therapeutic applications. She believes that research is very important and is eager to aid the scientific community with her findings.
