Zoe is a PhD student at UCD School of Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Pat Guiry. Her key interests are in organic chemistry, particularly in the design and development of new drug compounds, stemming from her undergraduate studies.
Zoe completed her BSc in 2021 in UCD, obtaining a first class honours degree in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Her final year project was carried out under the supervision of Dr Eoghan McGarrigle, where she worked on developing methods for automating the synthesis of carbohydrates.
Her current PhD project is focused on the degradation of lignin, and the utilization of the resulting breakdown products in synthesizing new compounds with medicinal or bioactive properties.
