Solar Powering DreamWorks’ Bee Movie
On Saturday, 18 April 2026, young people from the Generation Glas programme hosted a solar-powered cinema screening in the People’s Park, Limerick City Centre.
The event welcomed 70 members of the public to enjoy DreamWorks’ Bee Movie. The film was selected in part because it features bees and highlights their role as pollinators, making it a relevant and accessible way to introduce conversations about biodiversity, ecosystems, and the importance of pollinators in food production and environmental health.

Entirely powered by solar energy, the event demonstrated how sustainability can be integrated into everyday experiences, encouraging curiosity, conversation and community participation around climate and environmental topics.

Councillor Maria O’Donoghue attended the screening and said: “Generation Glas is a powerful example of how investing in young people can drive meaningful climate and social action in our communities. The solar cinema demonstrated how sustainable energy can benefit everyone, and we were delighted to welcome this initiative to the People’s Park in Limerick City Centre.”
Generation Glas is a Research Ireland Discover Award and is supported by BiOrbic, Ireland’s National Bioeconomy Research Center and Foróige, Ireland’s leading youth organisation.
