Cody joined BiOrbic in May 2018. Cody has over 15 years’ experience supporting and developing start-up companies, spin-outs and new technology in both the public and private sectors. For the past five years Cody was responsible for Enterprise Development at NovaUCD, which included the delivery of the VentureLaunch Accelerator programme each year. He has extensive experience with each part of the early stage start-up process, from R&D to developing Business Plans; sourcing government funding from local to EU levels; seeking out industry partners and private investors (angel and VC); business development; and commercialisation of technology, including development of intellectual property and patents. He has a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast which focused on catalysing the growth of the Green Economy.
Amanda is the Public Engagement, Education and Communications Manager at BiOrbic. She is responsible for engaging external groups with the centre’s research.
Amanda has a strong background in designing and delivering various engagement activities that combine STEM and the Arts (STEAM). In the past she has worked on large science festivals and has coordinated smaller activities such as STEM Escape Rooms and STEAM workshops in schools. She is the coordinator of STEAM Summer School, an annual international training programme in science communication, targeted to researchers.
Amanda has also previously worked as a freelance graphic designer, videographer and animator for various clients including the NHS.

Derek is Executive Director at BiOrbic with overall responsibility for the day to day running of the Centre. He works closely with other members of the Centre leadership to shape the strategic direction of the Centre and to ensure the Centre is performing in line key performance objectives. Derek leads the Centre’s Operations team.
Derek was part of BiOrbic’s founding team and previously worked in senior roles research and innovation roles at UCD and at a national level with the Irish Research Council.
B.Sc Government and Public Policy:
As Research Funding Manager, Jennie oversees the research funding strategy for the Centre and works with researchers to target key national and international funding programmes. Jennie collaborates with researchers to identify relevant opportunities and develop consortia for large grants. She provides support for proposal and project development to Centre members.

Liina joined the Centre from the UCD Research Office, where she held pre-award and grant registration roles since 2012. Over the years she has worked with researchers from all disciplines applying to national and international funding schemes. Liina has extensive experience in supporting development of research proposals as well as negotiations of research grants.
Previously, she completed a PhD and worked as postdoctoral researcher in Trinity College Dublin, where her focus was plant molecular biology.

Cathy is the Operations Manager, supporting all areas of the Centre’s operations and administration including SESAME reporting.
She joined the Centre in February 2019. Prior to this, she was the Projects Coordinator at the UCD Energy Institute. Other previous roles include Operations Manager with the SFI iCRAG Research Centre; Project Manager for UCD’s Connected health centre, ARCH; Project Manager for STEM Festival ‘Tech Week’; and various roles in the sports and the telecoms sector; and most interestingly as a City Operations Manager at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Cathy is currently studying part-time for an MSc in Project Management at the Smurfit Business School. She was also a team leader with UCDVO in 2017 in Tanzania on the Computers in Education project and in 2018 was Captain of UCD Staff Golf Society.
