Dr Geoghegan is interested in rural economic development, resource usage, especially regarding land and sustainability. He is especially interested in how concepts such as the circular economy can contribute to increasing economic activity in rural areas in a sustainable manner. Cathal has worked in the areas of choice modelling, microsimulation and policy analysis, and is skilled in the use of econometrics and statistical software.
He is currently developing an analytical framework to undertake an economic-environmental-spatial impact assessment of new bioeconomy sectors. This research presently involves mapping value chains within the Irish dairy sector and exploring value chains for new sectors arising from the dairy processing industry.
